This recording of Julius Caesar is one in a series drawn from Leon Garfield's Shakespeare Stories. Liberally sprinkled with lines from the original play, the recording presents a condensation of all five acts in a little more than an hour. Beginning with a brief biography of the Bard, the recording then offers a thorough but not lengthy overview of the play. All this sets the stage for Simon Russell Beale's well paced narration. This Royal Shakespeare Company veteran moves so skillfully between story text and dialogue that at times it seems as though there are several actors reading. Classic lines such as "Et tu. Brute" and "Friends, Romans, Countrymen " are rendered with fresh vigor. At the conclusion of the play, an article on "Shakespeare Today" offers suggestions to help youngsters have fun with Shakespeare. Short selections of period music make a nice transition between sections of the recording. Though aimed at a middle school audience, both teens and adults will find this presentation a good way to learn about one of the earliest plays performed at the Globe Theatre.

No Fear Shakespeare Julius Caesar

As an older adult that is somewhat isolated I started the study of Shakespeare on my own with just a big book that had annotaions that were often more cofusing than enlightening. It was rewarding but it was like plowing through a field full of big rocks. I found reading two or three scenes of an act with No Fear Shakespeare and then reading the corresponding section of Asimov's Guide to Shakespeare great fun. No Fear explains the nuances of language and setting while Asimov gives rich insight to the characters and events that makes it so easy to remember the varied characters and plot twists.

I found this method makes Shakespeare infinitely more easy to not only get through but savor and enjoy. My plan is to get as much of No Fear Shakespeare as I can including all the plays that I have gone through so laboriously in the past and apply the No Fear/Asimov technique. I hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

Not what I expected

This series is great for students. The books are divided into three sections: the first section is a kind of history of Shakespeare and his plays, the second section is the actual play, and the third section is more of the details of the play,i.e. where the story came from, how it is performed,how to directed the play. All in all it was a great for teaching the works of Shakespeare.

The classic book report... with a twist.

We all know the story of Julius Caesar. The tragic event that led to chaos. Though it is a popular television and movie theme, we know it in large part due to Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare's famed play. It includes moving scenes such as Caesar's infamous "Et tu Brute", and Marc Antony's moving "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears." This book, put together by Folger Shakespeare Library, helps to bring this story to life.

This book, about 239 pages total, features "explanatory notes conveniently placed on pages facing the text of the play." While these notes may not answer every question you might come up with, I believe they are very helpful to the average reader (such as myself). These pages also provide plenty of room for anyone who prefers to annotate, or write down thoughts, in their books.

Also featured on these pages is a scene summary for every scene. The scene summaries really helped me truly understand the Shakespearian language. I am very grateful I ordered this copy of Julius Caesar, since it has the tools necessary for the average reader to fully grasp what is happening. I picked it up right here on Amazon.com.

I can hardly find negative aspects to this edition. The best I can come up with is that the words and phrases noted are not already underlined or marked somehow by the publisher. (I know, not a big deal.) The story is great, a must-read for all history buffs or even the casual reader. All-in-all, if you are looking to read Julius Caesar, or just some Shakespeare to impress your friends or teachers with, check out the Folger Shakespeare Library's edition of Julius Caesar. I highly recommend it.

For decades the prevailing models of leadership have placed a premium on what would be identified as Extroverted behavior--charisma, likeability, media appeal, promotional skills, and salesmanship. In "Introvert Revolution" Andy Johnson validates the leadership potential and contribution of introverts and recommends a model that balances the extrovert yang with the introvert ying. He helps us understand how to tap what is perhaps the most underutilized talent pool in our organizations-- the introverts. With Johnson's help, Introverts can stop "faking it until they make it" and find ways to make a difference without having to be different.

Highly Recommended!

In his new book “Introvert Revolution” my friend and author Andy Johnson steps into the light of self- actualization to let the world know that he is angry and is not going to take it anymore. Worn out by a lifetime of being an introvert leader in an extroverted jungle, Andy masterfully weaves his way thru the minefield of cultural bias and societal and workplace injustice routinely experienced by “quiet” leaders. His thoughtful consideration of extensive research culminates in the compelling conclusion that the world, particularly the business community, are not getting it right on this one.
If you are one of those who have experienced the repressive force of “extro-world” then this book is for you. If you are a hard-wired extrovert then this book will provide you with an invaluable tool for living in community with your introverted family, friends and co-workers.
At the end of the day he argues that all any of us want is to be who we are. All of us want to be accepted and valued for what we contribute. As Johnson puts it--“Happiness is found in fulfilling the ultimate purpose for which we exist, our why.” He puts the world on notice that an introvert who succeeds in that makes a great leader.

Well researched, thought provoking, enjoyable read

This is genuinely the most informative, helpful, and enjoyable book on introversion I've read. Andy presents facts, data, and scientific information interspersed with historical and cultural stories, as well as personal interviews and anecdotes in this well-rounded book. Susan Cain's "Quiet" was an excellent "breakout" book on introversion, but Andy takes it to a new level in his highly thought out and well researched "Introvert Revolution." As an introvert, I learned more about temperament and its effect on work, relationships, etc. and how to understand myself and other introverts better. Additionally, Andy provides insight into tackling challenges and practical ways to thrive in the "extrovert ideal" world. I'd highly recommend this book to introverts and extroverts alike.

About the Author

Paul C. Etter has worked in ocean-atmosphere physics and environmental acoustics for the past 40 years, including as an active duty ASW officer for the U.S. Navy. He is the author and coauthor of more than 200 technical reports, professional papers, and books addressing environmental measurement technology, underwater acoustics, and physical oceanography. He received his B.S. in physics and his M.S. in oceanography from Texas A&M University.

Great way to study

This book is a great way of learning without it being strenuous. Studying for the bar/MBE is a game of strategy. Since you're sure you're going to spends hours studying anyway, you want to find a book like this that will get you the valuable knowledge without the brain pain. You can learn more reading this book, from the book itself, but then also being fresh enough mentally to continue your work, or go back to 'normal life' (not studying for the bar for an hour or two) without being tapped out.

All the info is there; where the book succeeds in keeping you fresh is not in lessening the info, but in the way the information is presented and the communication/teaching ability of the author.

It's broken down into the eight topics and has a great question/answer flow to it. You can tell it's written by an experienced tutor on the topic, because he's a great manager of your learning process. Since you can't bring the book with you to the bar exam, the author manages the studying process so you won't have to.

Short Scripts

As a hypnotherapist, I have all the main books on scripts. This book being barely 250 pages is not really all that "big" and although he dresses up that he's going to give you all kinds of different cool cutting edge scripts and he does, they are all pretty darn short. I guess if you read each one three times you could get some good results. Parts of some of these scripts are okay and some of it is really great and amazing. Just be informed that they are short and perhaps that is as it was intended. I was just surprised. For example the Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy Hypnosis script is less than two pages. How do you teach someone THAT in less than two pages? ACT Therapy was a page and two lines. I rest my case... lol

4/9/2006 UPDATE: After a few years of use I am changing my rating from 2 star to now 4 star. He has some scripts for some things I don't typically see in my office often. Although short scripts, if you repeat them 3x you can see some deep results. His script on "Overcoming Social Anxiety: Confidence Building" was one I have used with almost perfect success with many people. Also Sports Performance was pretty good. You may want to look through the table of contents to see if it has something you might want to use in your sessions. I still leave one star out for the same reasons as my original, but there is good stuff here that was put together well!

I collect hypnosis script books for new and refreshing ideas for myself and for my clients. The Big Book of Hypnosis Scripts is one of my favorites and its one of a few that I turn to first for stimulating my thought process. I highly recommend Richard Nongard's Big Book of Hypnosis scripts.

Good value, Great scripts

I bought the book for ideas on creating my own scripts for my own use. However, I am in the process of using it pretty much as is and recording it to listen to myself. Thereby saving a lot of money on pre-recorded scripts. Some of the interesting sessions include: pain control process(3 scripts), weight loss (4 scripts), managing anxiety and stress, goal-setting, and procrastination. Those alone are worth the price of the book to me. For hypnotherapists, hypnotists, and coaches, I believe there is a whole lot of value here, also. However, those who are interested in experiencing a variety hypnosis scripts for using themselves will find a great deal, too. There is a variety of subjects covered in the book.
