About the Author
CHRIS CHARLTON's first introduction to Japanese wrestling was on a shaky VHS copy of the 1994 Super J Cup. Five years after that viewing, he moved to Japan, where he has lived for the past decade. Immersed in the wrestling culture, Chris trained in the UK, where he wrestled for Midlands Pro Wrestling and NWA: UK Hammerlock. In Japan, he wrestled for various small independents before realising his talents were perhaps best served away from the ring. Since 2012, he has co-hosted Live Audio Wrestling's monthly Japanese podcast with WH Park, as well as commentating extensively on videogames and sub cultures at kaijupop.com. Chris currently lives in Yokohama with his wife and son. This is his first book.

Excellent book.

Excellent book. I subscribed to Kindle Unlimited just to read this book, and it was awesome. As someone who just started watching NJPW with WrestleKingdom 9, it was a great history of the company. Would be interested in a physical copy if price (currently $35 price tag) goes down at some point. Definitely would read again.

Excellent history and cirque of an iconic promotion

A long time wrestling fan from the 1970s onward, ice been aware of NJPW, mostly through their cooperative work with NWA/WCW and ROH. As such, my familiarity was vague at best, so reading a more in depth explanation and history was something both entertaining and educational.

Written in a very easy to read style, this book covers both the positive and negatives of the company, its various experiments and highs and lows. Highly recommend to ask wrestling fans.

A Must Buy

This book might be one of the easiest and funest reads I have had in a long time. Once I picked uo the book it was hard to out down. The author does a great job at telling the history of NJPW. As a new comer to NJPW I found this book very helpful. I recommend this to anyone looking to get into New Japan or any fan of wrestling in general. I love this book.

About the Author
Nicholas Brownlees is Associate Professor of English Language at the University of Florence, Italy. He has written extensively on early modern news and edited News Discourse in Early Modern Britain (2006). This book has its origins, we are told, in the authors' experiences teaching graduate students in computer science, who needed background in certain mathematical topics. Since these topics were not covered in the basic courses that these students had taken, the authors undertook to introduce them in courses spanning several semesters, the lecture notes of which, suitably expanded, became this text. ... I like expository books, because I think, particularly in these days of increasing specialization, that they serve a valuable purpose, not only for students but also professionals who want to see what's going on in other areas, or who need some background in one area for research in another. For example, this note on “tramp-stamps:” “We would like to suggest in our deeply caring, perhaps conservative, mom-like way, that the money spent on that pink dolphin with a daisy in its mouth on your bicep would have gone a long way toward buying some incredible wardrobe pieces that would still be as thrilling ten years from now. Even something really racy and baaaaad, like, say, a killer bustier, will hold up for decades if it’s a quality piece, and will make you feel just as kick-ass every time you pull it out as it did the moment you first saw it.”

Northrop P-61 Black Widow Pilot's Flight Manual

The heavily armed P-61 Black Widow was the U.S. Army Air Force's first dedicated night fighter. Equipped with radar, four .50 caliber machine guns and four 20mm. cannons, the Widow was a fearsome adversary. It flew as both an intruder and interceptor in Europe and the Pacific.

Service deliveries of the aircraft started in May, 1944, with the 348th Night Fighter Squadron (NFS) of the 481st Night Fighter Group (NFG). The first P-61 kill was recorded on June 30, 1944 (some sources say July 6), when a Widow of the 6th NFS downed a 'Betty" bomber over the Pacific.

706 P-61's were built in total.

Originally printed by Northrop in 1945, the P-61 Pilot's Flight Operating Manual taught pilots everything they needed to know before entering the cockpit. Originally classified "Restricted", the manual was declassified long ago and is here reprinted in book form. This affordable facsimile has been reformatted, but care has been taken however to preserve the integrity of the text. It's a fascinating read and one of the more unique ways to appreciate this unique warbird.

Pilot's Manual for a Rare Warbird

The P-61 Black Widow is one of the really rare warbirds from World War II. It has a certain mystique because not too many were built and because they were designed to fly at night.

The following information is what I've been able to collect over the years, and is not guaranteed to be accurate:

Only 705 were built. Of these only four are known to exist, one each at the Smithsonian (not on diaplay), Wright Pat Air Base Museum, one at Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Engineering in Beijing, China (reportedly for sale for $2 Million - They cost $170,000 new), and one at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum (maam.org) which is being restored, hopefully to flying status.

The gun turret on the top of the P-61 was the same as on the B-29. The B-29's had priority so a lot of P-61's were built without the top turret. There are also stories that when you turned the top turret to either side that the plane became unstable.

Anyway, this book is a reprint of the original pilot's manual. A study of this book, and the pilot was supposed to be able to fly the thing.
